RIM of Waterloo (Ontario) has continued its practice of aggressively enforcing its intellectual property rights by commencing proceedings in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against Handspring of Mountain View, California, for allegedly infringing a US patent RIM owns. In an announcement made on September 19, 2002, RIM said that it is seeking a declaration of infringement, an injunction against further infringement and damages. Keyboards on 3 models of Handspring's TREO are alleged by RIM to be infringing. These keyboards and that of RIM's Blackberry mobile email device may each be operated by a user's thumbs. RIM has been involved in court actions with Good Technologies and Glenayre Technologies (the latter now settled). For more details, visit: http://www.rim.com/news/press/pr-18_09_2002.shtml
