Effective April 28, 2007, Ms Mary Carman has been appointed Canada's new Commissioner of Patents, Registrar of Trade-marks, and CEO of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), replacing the outgoing Commissioner, David Tobin. Ms Carman has spent more than 25 years as a federal civil servant working in several Departments, including Health Canada and the Privy Council Office. Since 2003, Ms Carman has occupied several senior positions at Industry Canada, including working as Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of Spectrum, Information Technologies, and Telecommunications, as Chief Information Officer, Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Science and Innovation Sector and ADM, Small Business and Marketplace Services.
