As noted by E-TIPS® earlier (“Final Means Final: Canadian Commissioner of Patents Ordered to Issue a Patent ‘Forthwith” Vol 8, No 7, September 23, 2009), the Federal Court had ordered the Canadian Commissioner of Patents to grant the patent at issue, for a computerized stock trading system. However, the Commissioner appealed the decision. The appeal has now been denied by the Federal Court of Appeal, and the patent issued on September 29, 2009 to the applicant, Sydney Belzberg. E-TIPS® is grateful to Mr. Belzberg for notifying us of the Federal Court of Appeal result, the earlier report having been picked up by the legal information aggregator, Linex Legal. For the Industry Canada public file on the patent, see: http://tinyurl.com/ykhgqhn Summary by: James Kosa and Clare McCurley
