A growing emphasis on mediation and arbitration has prompted the ADR Institute of Canada to develop comprehensive National Arbitration Rules. The Rules complement arbitration statutes in most provinces and are intended to provide a detailed procedure for arbitration of any kind of dispute within Canada. The rules allow parties to develop their own procedures by mutual agreement, but provide a default process if the parties cannot agree. The ADR Institute of Canada is a national non-profit organization that promotes alternative dispute resolution in Canada. The new Rules are of great importance to companies in the technology sector since many technology related contract have arbitration clauses.
