The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is widely expected to rule imminently that voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) transmissions should be regulated the same way as traditional phone services. In a pre-emptive move, the CEO of BCE Inc (which owns Bell Canada) has said that the company will appeal to the federal Cabinet if the CRTC rules as expected. Another BCE Inc executive pointed out that about 18 other countries have now issued VoIP rulings and only Singapore has decided to regulate the pricing of VoIP services.
