On January 1, 2004, the federal government's personal privacy protection legislation will come into full force.   By that date, most organizations in Canada either will be subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA") or subject to substantially similar provincial privacy legislation. This deadline cannot be ignored and businesses must get their "privacy houses" in order or face potentially serious consequences.
