Deeth Williams Wall LLP celebrates the outstanding career of co-founding partner, Amy-Lynne Williams, who will be retiring from legal practice at the end of September 2023.

For 43 years, Amy-Lynne has led an impressive practice in the areas of information technology, outsourcing, mobile payments, privacy and cybersecurity law. She is one of Canada’s most prominent IT lawyers with an impressive track record advising blue chip clients through milestone transactions over the course of her career.  Amy-Lynne represented clients in the development of the modern Canadian online and mobile payment system; the development of the Electronic Vehicle infrastructure by municipalities; and has represented governments, insurance companies, major banks, payment systems processors, multi-national companies, software development companies, and technology and business processing services companies on a myriad of technology transactions over the course of her career.

Amy-Lynne is a prominent member of the legal community with a decorated history of service to the IT Bar. This includes publishing and speaking on several key aspects of IT law over the years and consistently contributing to professional development initiatives for colleagues in the field. Amy-Lynne has also occupied leadership positions at many major legal organizations, including serving as president of both the International Technology Law Association and the Canadian IT Law Association (now the Canadian Technology Law Association).

Amy-Lynne has mentored countless members of the IT Bar, freely offering her time and advice to junior members of the bar. Throughout her career, she has been a champion of women’s rights, opening many doors for generations to follow. Amy-Lynne is a pioneer in the field of IT law and a shining pillar of the community. She has been appropriately nicknamed the “Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove”.

At DWW, Amy-Lynne was the firm’s first managing partner and continues to be a pivotal voice in its leadership and development to this day. Everyone at DWW will miss working with Amy-Lynne. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours and thank her for her humour, her grace and the extraordinary contributions she has made to the firm.
