Sumaiya Sharmeen is an Associate of the firm. She practices in intellectual property and information technology law.

Practice Areas

Sumaiya Sharmeen helps national and multinational clients in a broad range of industries anticipate and effectively evaluate legal issues in Intellectual Property (IP) matters and Information Technology (IT) commercial transactions. Her practice focuses on helping clients launch new products and services by protecting their IP and navigating the laws governing the use of emerging technologies. 

She has extensive knowledge of patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, domain name disputes and global data protection and privacy matters. She assists clients with negotiating licensing and technology development agreements as well as developing terms of use, privacy disclosures and policies. In addition, she has experience with litigating contract disputes and complex IP cases including patent and trademark infringement actions and proceedings under the PM(NOC) regulations in Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Ontario Superior Court.

Sumaiya was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 2015. She holds a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School; a M.Sc. in Medical Biophysics from University of Toronto; and a B.Sc. in Biotechnology from University of Toronto. During her graduate studies, she used various data analytics and bioinformatics tools to identify a novel anti-cancer drug for the treatment of leukemia.
