On August 31, 2017, by Orders in Council, the Government of Canada announced that the majority of the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act will come into force on September 21, 2017. The provisions that will come into force include:

  1. amendments to the Patented Medicines Notice of Compliance Regulations (previously reported in E-TIPS® Newsletter here);
  2. new Certificates of Supplementary Protection Regulations (previously reported in E-TIPS® Newsletter here); and
  3. expansion of the protection of geographical indications to include agricultural products and food in the Trade-marks Act (previously reported in E-TIPS® Newsletter here).
