Government Of Canada Launches AI Transparency Consultation

On July 23, 2026, the Government of Canada launched a public consultation (Consultation) to help shape the next steps for safe, responsible and reliable artificial intelligence (AI). The Consultation supports the Canadian government’s commitment to advancing AI transparency, as outlined in “Canada’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All” (as previously reported by the E-TIPS^® Newsletter here).

The Consultation focuses on five key areas in which transparency issues arise and further action may be necessary:

1. Detecting and identifying AI-generated content.
2. Empowering individuals to know when they are interacting with an AI system.
3. Improving the availability of consistent and understandable information about AI systems, including their development, capabilities and limitations.
4. Enabling the tracking of serious incidents related to AI systems.
5. Advancing ways to better track the activity and interactions of AI agents.

The Government believes that Canadians and businesses need clear, accessible information to understand when they are interacting with AI systems and to make informed decisions about the use and adoption of AI technologies. Strengthening transparency around AI systems is therefore essential to building public trust and ensuring AI is used safely and responsibly.
